There was no manual delivered in the HUGE download. It was a good thing I downloaded the manual. The manual also indicated that the Mac versions were available at the Mac App Store. After checking the system requirements, it was downloaded onto my 17-inch, 2011, MacBook Pro. The search also lead to the download for the manual at /aerofly-rc-7-manual-english.pdf. It is shown correctly on the Ikarus site. The comparison page on the Ikarus Web site shows that the comparison page on the aerofly site is incorrect. Using the aerofly compare page, it seemed that there was a difference in what was listed for the Standard Windows version and what I received as a download for the Mac. There is a comparison chart on the aerofly Web site ( that compares the features of the Standard, Professional and Ultimate versions of the program. The Google search also lead me to the aerofly RC 7 Web site, where they noted that the Mac version is available in the Mac App store. With the MI sales tax added, it was $47.69. The Standard version was listed for $44.99. Typically, RC rotary flight does not require as large a field of vision as airplanes.Ī visit to the Web site listed in the ad, found all of the Mac versions listed as out of stock.Ī Google search lead to the Mac App Store where aerofly RC 7 is available as a download. Most RC flight simulators are good for learning the basics of rotary flight. Since I only am interested in non-rotary aircraft, I concentrated on the functions and features for them. The perspective is not correct and the peripheral objects, to help the pilot stay aligned with the runway at the real field, are not available on the virtual display.Īfter using the previously mentioned simulators, I believe that even the $20 NitroPlanes Windows based flight simulator, with the USB 6-channel transmitter-type game controller, is 'good enough' for RC flight training purposes. NONE of the previously mentioned simulators provided the field of vision found at the flying field. I'm not a huge fan of RC flight simulators for learning to fly RC planes. The Dynam controller now comes with the ClearViewSE RC Flight Simulator. I've owned, and used, four other RC flight simulators the Dave Brown simulator for the Apple IIe/GS, MachineWorks NorthWest: CockpitMaster, Reflex XTR, and the free FMS flight simulator supplied with a Dynam USB 6-channel transmitter-type game controller purchased from NitroPlanes. The interesting thing, for me, was that there was a Mac version. I remembered seeing an ad for the new aerofly RC 7 RC Flight Simulator on page 119 of the April 2014 Model Aviation. With my left arm in a sling for at least six weeks, while recovering from rotator cuff surgery, I needed something to occupy my mind and time. I would pay $400 to get back the flying experience I loved, but since that is off the table, please don’t patronize this third-rate excuse for a patch.Review: aerofly RC 7 RC Flight Simulator for the MacĮditor: The Ampeer Electric Flight NewsletterĮlectric Flyers Only (EFO) of southeastern Michigan Don’t buy this, it is worse than unusable. If you have RC 7, don’t upgrade, you are better off with what you have. Presumably they have a Windows-ported or legacy code base which they don’t want to or can’t rewrite, and it has finally broken in terms of usability on OS X. As a programmer, it was always obvious to me that the authors were not using the Apple graphics and UI libraries properly, or perhaps not at all. At the lowest graphics quality setting, running the least graphic intensive levels, the best frame rate which I can achieve is 16 fps, which is 24 less than RC 7 before Mojave, and at least 10 fps than what I would need to make the program useable. The cursor becomes almost useable the moment you launch the program. I have a brand new 2018 Mac Mini, but I can barely launch RC 8. And when RC 8 came out, I paid $80 for it. As a programmer, I know that Apple’s deprecation of OpenGL and introduction of Metal broke a lot of 3D programs, so I was was patient and hoped for a new version. When we upgraded to OS X Mojave, RC 7 became almost unusable because of low frame rates and jerky freezes. We learned RC flying there, and it was one of our favorite pastimes and activities. Myself and my daughter have flown hundreds of hours in Aerofly RC 7.
